What You’ll Be Doing
As a Heavy Duty Driver, your daily responsibilities will include:
- Operating horseboxes, heavy-duty trucks, and trailers safely.
- Transporting horses to and from racecourses, training facilities, and veterinary locations.
- Ensuring horses are loaded, secured, and unloaded according to welfare standards.
- Following approved routes and schedules while meeting race-day timelines.
- Delivering racing equipment, feed, and operational materials.
- Coordinating with trainers, race officials, and support teams.
- Monitoring horses during transportation for signs of stress or illness.
- Maintaining proper ventilation, hydration, and rest stops during trips.
- Completing trip sheets, mileage logs, and transport documentation.
- Reporting delays, incidents, vehicle defects, and operational issues promptly.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants should have:
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4).
- Valid Code 14 Driver’s Licence.
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
- Clean driving record.
- 3 to 5 years of heavy-duty driving experience.
